Soon after graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where I received a Bachelor in Fine Arts, I packed up my bags and moved to Dallas, Texas.  My studies were mainly focused in fiber arts, book arts, and printmaking.  My work in fiber arts (especially Family Block) is heavily influenced by the textures and organic shapes found in the works of Shelia Hicks.  Recently, I began to consider the relationship between the woven structure and text.
The study of language and the history of the alphabet has greatly impacted my book arts; using the alphabet as a narration device or taking elements of language to encourage the platform for a book.
Similar to the motions of weaving, I find the steps to constructing a book to be very therapeutic.  My interests in bookbinding span throughout my art and into my craft work.  Thus the creation of Burnt Cucumber, the store, has stemmed from my work into a personal craft business.
